| We are delighted to announce publication of our book on Savannah Monitor Lizards, the first title whose authors have bred the animals in captivity and studied them in the wild! As a result our book is very different from its competitors. The husbandry information is excellent and the insights into the animals' ecology and natural history are unique. In fact we believe that this will rapidly make all other books about savannah monitors obsolete! Published January 2003. ISBN 0-95266329-5. 84 pages, 64 illustrations, 13 in colour. 8.5 x 5.5. inches, softbound. Printed on high quality gloss paper.
Other books that are devoted to “savannah monitors” are unsatisfactory because the authors have neither benefited from seeing the animal in its natural environment nor had any experience of breeding the animals in captivity. Kept in the manner suggested by other books the lizards will, at best, survive, but they will not flourish. Without a good understanding of how the lizards behave in nature and how they should be kept in captivity, the vast majority will die long, lingering deaths at the hands of well meaning, but misinformed keepers. We hope this book will provide some reliable information on this remarkable and much maligned reptile, and give its fans some indication of its proper care in captivity. It will hopefully bridge the gap between the many well-meaning but misinformed books and magazine articles on keeping these lizards in captivity and the largely inaccessible facts about how the animal spends its natural life and how it can thrive in captivity.
